Videography

Here's where you'll find any and all videos I've produced!

While the videos will also be included here, the true purpose of this page is to showcase some "Behind the Scenes" features, like my thoughts on the project and any custom artwork I made explicitly for a video!

The Paranormal Investi-Streamers

Paranormal Investi-Streamers

Game: Phasmophobia

Summary: Two amateur streamers, Mazarkee and Dragonic Dude, decide to create a startup ghost-hunting business in pursuit of thrills and views. Their decision will lead them to numerous cursed abodes and they'll discover just how ghostly this world truly is. Will they fall victim to the supernatural or will they find themselves at each other's throats?

Director Commentary and Additional Assets Below!

If I'm being completely honest, I feel somewhat embarrassed showing off this video, haha!

Not to talk down on myself, but I find a lot of what's on display here to be fairly amateurish: My audio balancing was all over the place, the video was far too long, my narration abilities leave a lot to be desired, among other things.

But I'm still including it here because, at the end of the day, I'm proud of what I've accomplished here. The original footage that composes the vast majority of this video was a livestream that a friend and I did ages ago that had no scripting or planning behind it. It was just two dudes having fun playing a game in front of a minimal audience. And I decided to task myself with weaving some kind of narrative through-line between a series of clips, by adding voice over, music, and additional post-production techniques.

The final result is basically a short film, spanning just over 48 minutes. If anything, this video's flaws only inspire me more to make something better next time!

During the creation of this project, I had the idea to include a few scenes where I'd use assets that I've made to describe events that happened "off-camera" or to elaborate on our task.

When designing them, I wanted to drive home the "amateur" aspect of the characters (and ourselves, admittedly, haha), so I went for simplistic, crayon-like drawings.

However, after making some of them, I felt they were too static and would look awkward on video. So I gave them three frames of animation, and redrew each asset for each to give it this "cartoonish" vibe with more energy to them!

I still like the way they turned out!

Additionally, this project also includes my first foray into animation! (At least my first animation with a purpose behind it beyond just practice) During the production of this video, I realized I was putting so much effort into it, I might as well also give it a logo of its own!

So I started with the text, which includes a modified version of the "X-Files" font, wherein I added spoooooky eyes to each letter of the word Paranormal and played with the width at various points along the length of each stroke to add to the supernatural feeling of the font and make it more organic.

Then, as a contrast, this font is followed by the "RowdyHeavy" font, which has a much more rigid, manufactured structure (but still with enough variance that an excitable entrepreneur might decide to use it over, say, "Times New Roman") to present the made-up, mish-mashed term, Investi-Streamer. To further the contrast, I gave it a background of plain notebook paper and a texture as if it was stenciled on with lead pencil.

After deciding on fonts and form, the logo needed something big to bring it together and add some character to it. My mind immediately went to using a ghost as a mascot, of sorts, since, after all, this was ultimately a video about ghost hunters. But I needed to tie the concept of "streaming" to it, so I concluded the ghost should mimic the Twitch logo. After I got a satisfying shape for the final logo, I got the urge to try animating the ghost. I decided the ghost should fly in front of and around the text, as if it were "tying together" the two separate concepts!

I ended up really liking the final result! If I were to make it again, I'd touch up the ghost's flight path, and possibly add a few more in-between frames. However, at the end of the day,  it's arguable that I already spent way too much time and thought into something that would only be in the video for only 5 seconds. No regrets.
